308 PM EDT THU AUG 21 2008

0200 PM TROPICAL STORM JACKSONVILLE BEACH 30.28N 81.39W
08/21/2008 DUVAL FL FIRE DEPT/RESCUE

*** 1 FATAL, 1 INJ *** TWO SURFERS ENTERED THE OCEAN NEAR ATLANTIC BEACH AND WERE TOLD TO EXIT THE WATER BY LOCAL LIFEGUARDS THEN RETURNED TO THE WATER AND DRIFTED SOUTH AND WERE FOUND BY LOCAL OFFICIALS. THERE WAS ONE FATALITY AND ONE SURFER WHO SUFFERED CRITICAL INJURIES. REPORT FIRST CAME IN VIA A STORM SPOTTER BUT WAS CONFIRMED BY THE JACKSONVILLE BEACH LIFEGUARD STATION VIA PHONE.

If you click on the title of my post, it'll take you to a classic definition of 'stupidity.' Too bad someone had to die.

The follow-up on this story is one person, a visitor to the Great State of Florida, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. The other surfer was unhurt.

So, the Preliminary Report was just that...
